Great Dates

Here is a growing list of Great Date Ideas that you can do locally and cheap. If you have any suggestions let me know:

1. Mammoth Cave: forget the tours that cost too much, there is plenty more to do there.
a. Bike and Eat: Drive 20 miles north, take the Mammoth Cave Exit, take a left. There is converted railroad embankment that had been converted into a bike trail. You can do any distance you like and their are signs posted at each stop. Bike a few miles to the Visitors Center. Stop at the hotel and have breakfast or lunch and bike back to your vehicle. Time: 3-4 hours. Cost: 15$
b. Canoe the Green River. There are many outfitters you can google. You can spend all day, camp overnight or do a short cruise. Cost: About 50$ a canoe, or, you can rent one from the ORAC and save lots of money.
c. Camp/Hike. You can again visit ORAC and get all the supplies you need or you can just do a day hike. You must register at the visitors center where you can get a list of trails.

2. Cave City: You can do this in conjunction with Mammoth or without. It's about 25 minutes North of BG. Some of the touristy stuff is cheesy, and some is fun. We recommend doing the 5$ chairlift and Alpine Slide. There are also bumper cars, horseback rides, etc...

3. Shaker Museum: Just west of BG about 7 miles. Shaker Museum

4. Flea Land! Visit during the weekend. It's like a bizarre with goodies and junk. You probably won't buy anything but it is well worth the time. It's located just off the interstate.

5. Great Coffeeshops: Try Spencer's on the square or Bread and Bagel near the intersection of 31W and Scottsville Rd. Relax, enjoy great sandwiches or drink coffee and eat a pastry.

6. Junktiquing: You may be too young to appreciate this but she probably isn't. There are tons of Consignment shops in BG.

7. Rope Swing! This is obviosly seasonal, usually best at the beginning of the school-year. The directions are in my truck! It is a great group event as well.

8. Rent a Tandem bike from ORAC and cruise downtown or the Greenway.

9. Rent a movie, pull out the Laptop and a blanket and watch it on the Lawn between DUC and Preston.
